Abstract

The aim of this work was to prepare poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) layer and a PEDOT/graphene oxide (GO) composite layer by electrochemical polymerisation. The synthesis was carried out from an electrolyte containing 3,4-ethylenedioxyphene (EDOT) in a solution of poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or a mixture of PSS/GO. The results showed that PEDOT layer were successfully synthesised by applying a potential of 1.00 V during 600 s. It was concluded that the optimal concentration of PSS is 0.01 mol dm–3. The incorporation of GO in the polymer layers was proven by the UV/Vis spectroscopy. PEDOT/GO layer was polarised at the potential of −1.4 V in 0.1 mol dm–3 KCl solution to reduce GO within the polymer layer. The polarisation at negative potentials resulted in improved pseudocapacitive properties of the PEDOT layer, which proves the successful electrochemical reduction of GO. Obtained layers were characterised by cyclic voltammetry.
