Pharmaceutical Significance of the Stereoisomerisation Process
L. Hok, D. Šakić, V. Vrček and R. Vianello
Investigation of the stereoisomerisation process is of the utmost importance in pharmaceutical chemistry and biomedicine. Different isomers can exhibit significant differences when interacting with biological macromolecules, which may result in their modified pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, thereby showing different therapeutic and undesirable effects. Although there are numerous examples illustrating the importance of stereochemistry, this article presents an overview of the most significant and representative cases in pharmacy.
