He was born in 1938 in Šid (Srijem) and educated in Varaždin (elementary school, 1945–1952 and high school, 1952–1957), and in Zagreb (Faculty of Technology, 1957–1962). He did diploma research under the guidance of Siniša Maričić at the Rugjer Bošković Institute. He obtained his master’s degree in 1967 and soon after the Ph. D. in 1969 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Zagreb under the supervision of Professor Milan Randić. He spent his career at the Rugjer Bošković Institute and the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His field of research was molecular spectroscopy where he made his mark and was internationally recognized for the high quality of his work. In the Department of Chemistry, he was associated with the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry where he was the Head of the Laboratory from 2000 to 2007.
