Abstract
In this study, the microporous silica membrane was prepared by the template assisted
sol-gel method. The surface of the templated silica membranes was modified via two
procedures; selective layer, and layer by layer surface modification. The obtained results
confirmed that the surface modification procedure is very crucial to the final performance
of the membrane. Thus, for the templated silica membrane modified by the first procedure, CO2/N2 permselectivity was achieved at 3.0 and CO2 permeance was
6.3×10–9 mol m–2 s–1 Pa–1, while for the templated silica membrane modified by the second procedure, the CO2/N2 permselectivity was achieved at 11.3 and CO2 permeance was 4.0×10–8 mol m–2 s–1 Pa–1, at room temperature.
